Work and Study in Canada

Here are some main conditions required if you’re willing to work while studying in Canada. Get in touch with us for more detailed information.

Who’s eligible to work while studying?

  • Full-time students
  • With a Social Insurance Number (SIN) from Service Canada
  • The student holds a valid study permit
  • Enrolled in an academic program at RRC Polytech
  • The program has to be at least six months in duration

What are the working conditions?

  • Eligible students can work on- or off-campus
  • Eligible students can work part-time up to 20 hours per week (off-campus)
  • During scheduled breaks in the academic calendar, eligible students are allowed to work full-time
  • You may work for any employer in Canada who is not on the ineligible employer list

You will not be qualified to work during your studies if:

  • You’re enrolled full-time in an English as a Second Language (ESL) program
  • You have a part-time course load
  • You’re participating in general interest or preparatory courses
  • Your program is less than six months

Regardless of length and compensation, international students undertaking any field education (co-op work experience and internship) must have a valid co-op work permit.
